discovery and experimentation

I am a contemporary sculptor and painter based in New York City. My work is recognized for its raw and provocative textural abstractions. My fascination for abstraction began during COVID while living on Oahu. Through my pieces, I convey the harmony achieved when contrasting ideas, materials, or people intersect.

I use construction adhesive as a texture on wood forms and surfaces. The wood has been cut and assembled using wood glue, screws, wood filler and primer. Several layers of paint further highlight the organic details I have created. While my assemblies are unique to myself, the influences of Alberto Giacometti, Louise Nevelson and Barbara Hepworth can be felt. I love the tone and textures that are at play. The way the darker colors get into nooks and crannies that have been left by the putty knife forcing the adhesive to extrude past the borders of the tool, creating a rhythm of shapes that contrast against the other elements in the piece.

My journey is one of discovery and experimentation. Throughout my life this has been true and now it is being expressed in my art.
